【要点】

文頭に比較級あるいはasを含む要素がある場合、enough、so、tooを含む要素がある場合と異なり、主語・助動詞倒置はできない。J.S. Bowers (1975a).

【類例】

1) Slowly enough did John walk for the child to keep up with him. / Too quickly did John run for Bill to catch up with him. / *As fast did John run as Bill did. / As fast John ran as Bill did.

2) There were more men at the party than were standing next to Sam. / *There were more men at the party than standing next to Sam were.

3) John is taller than Harry claims [*realizes] Bill is. / John is taller than Harry realizes.
